Dissolved Air Flotation systems

Nordic Water offers dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems for industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment. The range includes high-rate DAF for higher flows, open-tank DAF for high-solids duties, and compact DAF for space-constrained, remote or temporary installations.

Choose a DAF system that matches your duty and size constraints: high-rate, open-tank for high solids, or compact and container-ready for rapid installation.

What is dissolved air flotation (DAF)?
Dissolved air flotation (DAF) is a solid–liquid separation process used to remove suspended solids (TSS) and fats, oils and grease (FOG) from wastewater. A pressurized recycle stream is saturated with air to form ‘whitewater’ containing microbubbles that attach to conditioned particles. The solids float to the surface for skimming, while clarified water beneath the flotation zone is routed to downstream treatment.

Choose the right DAF format

Choose high-rate DAF (PCL series) when flows are high, and footprint is constrained.

Choose open-tank DAF (PWL series) when high-solids wastewater and operator visibility drive the design.

Choose compact DAF (PCCS series) when deployment speed, remote logistics or limited civils drive the project.

Typical DAF industrial wastewater applications

  • Food and beverage processing wastewater

  • Slaughterhouse effluent and rendering wastewater pretreatment

  • Pulp, paper and board wastewater

  • Petrochemical and refinery wastewater

  • Mining and industrial wastewater

  • Industrial pretreatment ahead of biological treatment or discharge

Information typically needed at enquiry

  • Application and sector

  • Flow profile: peak-to-average factors and temperature

  • Influent variability including pH, COD, TSS, FOG and any known shock loads

  • Target discharge or downstream treatment requirements

  • Preferred chemical conditioning approach if known

  • Sludge handling route, such as hopper, thickener, press, and dryness targets

  • Available site footprint

  • Existing upstream and downstream treatment
